Be part of history as we nearly double Edmonton’s second stage housing capacity — building 64 new homes where healing begins and violence ends.
When emergency shelter ends, the need for safety does not. This expansion creates homes where healing can begin and futures can take shape.

CURRENT LANDSCAPE
4/100
Only 4 out of 100 women can access second stage housing. This expansion directly addresses one of the most critical gaps in Alberta’s response to gender-based violence.
47%
47% of the homeless population are women. Many of these women are fleeing violence, highlighting the urgent need for safe, stable housing beyond emergency shelter.
32%
Only 32% of shelter requests could be met. When capacity falls short, women and children are left without immediate safety or a clear path forward.
The Project
The project is a five-storey, apartment-style building that will create 64 independent homes for women and children as they transition from emergency shelter to long-term stability. Designed to support both second- and third-stage housing, the building includes dedicated ground-floor amenity space with WIN House offices and essential communal areas, ensuring residents can safely access the supports they need on site.
The residential units are intentionally flexible, allowing WIN House to adapt unit configurations, family sizes, and levels of support as residents’ needs change over time. This thoughtful design ensures the building can respond to real-life circumstances while providing stability and dignity. All 64 units will remain affordable for the lifetime of the building, creating lasting impact for generations to come.

The Gap Between Safety and Stability
Emergency shelter provides immediate safety. But without access to stable housing, many women and children are forced to choose between returning to unsafe situations or facing housing insecurity.
Second stage housing bridges this critical gap offering time, stability, and support so families can truly move forward. Right now, demand far exceeds availability. Women are ready to rebuild. Children are ready to heal. The space simply does not exist.
FIVE PILLARS OF IMPACT
These five pillars guide every decision in this expansion ensuring we are not only building homes, but creating lasting safety, healing, and stability for women, children, and families. Together, they reflect what it truly takes to move people from crisis toward independence and a stronger future.

Safety & Stability: Every woman deserves a safe place to heal and rebuild.

We focus on safety first because healing cannot begin without it. Stable, secure housing gives women and children the foundation they need to recover from violence and rebuild their lives with dignity.

Capacity & Access: Meeting the need by expanding what’s possible.

We are expanding access because the need far exceeds availability. Increasing second-stage housing capacity by more than one-third opens new pathways to long-term safety for families who would otherwise remain in crisis.

Healing & Transformation: Beyond shelter - toward long-term change.

We prioritize healing because housing alone is not enough. Time, trauma-informed support, and stability allow families to rebuild confidence, restore routines, and move toward lasting independence.

Community & Partnership:
No one does this work alone.

We focus on partnership because meaningful change requires collective action. This expansion strengthens the entire system of care, reducing pressure on emergency services and creating shared solutions to gender-based violence.

Future & Legacy: What we build today shapes generations tomorrow.

We invest in the future because the impact extends beyond today. Every home built helps break cycles of violence and homelessness, creating safer outcomes for generations to come.
